A New Beginning

  • Mood: Reflective
  • Music: Some Arabic music - really good

Sometimes we are given the opportunity to look back on what we have done, what we have not done, what we could have done and what we should have done. I had that opportunity a few weeks ago. I decided to take a step back and look upon my life as if I were seeing it through someone else's eyes. So much has happened to me in the last few months. I moved to a new location and because of that I lost a few friends. However I have managed to keep in touch with a few good friends, so I don't really have any regrets about moving. I needed a new job with a better salary and better career opportunities. Anyway, I have always believed that true friends will stay with you wherever you go. Life is dynamic. Constantly changing. So are friendships and relationships. How many of us are still in touch with the friends we made in junior school? Friends are important, but they should not stand in the way of personal development. In fact, they should support you and be happy for you.

Another 'change' was to pay more attention to my writing. I have been writing ever since I was a little girl. I never really thought about publishing any of my work until recently. I just never thought it was good enough and was afraid noone would want to read my books/poems. Since I write a lot of my work, especially poems, from personal experiences, I think subconciously I was afraid of rejection if noone wanted to buy my books! I have a feeling a lot of authors go through that. But now I have grown up and have realized that we ALL have someone we have something in common with and who we can relate to or identify with. This is the basis of a fan base for any author. People will buy books as long as they like the author and what they write. So I figured there must be SOMEONE out there who will enjoy my work and have decided to give it a go! Another thing I realized with growing up is that sometimes all you need is a helping hand. When I was younger, I wouldn't let ANYONE suggest ANYTHING about my writing. Talk about taking an author's licence to the extreme! Well, those negative thoughts and ideas have gone down the drain. That is why I started the Peach Tree Club. Although the group is still young and growing, I have already appreciated the members' talent and feel I can learn a lot from them. I like their honesty, which we all need. Otherwise we would all write crap and tell each other we were brilliant just so we don't hurt each other's feeling. So, maybe one day my book will be in your local bookstore!

Anyway, I wish you all a very Happy and Peaceful Easter.

Amethyst
